The Woodpeckers Ultra-Shear Turning Tool with Diamond (Detail) Carbide Insert gives controlled access for precision work without sacrificing stability. It is designed for woodturners who want crisp definition in beads, grooves and transitions while avoiding the fragility of small traditional detail tools. The diamond‑shaped Ultra‑Shear carbide insert maintains a consistent cutting edge through long sessions.
Used flat on centerline, the tool handles shaping and light material removal. After the form is established, the patented shaft geometry allows the tool to roll naturally into the shear scraping position. At that angle, fibers are sliced instead of scraped, producing cleaner details with less sanding and fewer torn edges. The rigid ChroMoly shaft keeps the cutter steady during fine work where control matters most.
When the edge dulls, simply rotate the insert to a fresh edge, and when all edges are used, replace the insert and continue working without interruption. When removing the locking screw, first ensure the screw head pocket is completely clean of sawdust and residue, and that the wrench is fully seated in the socket before you attempt to remove it. Firmly turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen. When reinstalling the new screw, apply a light dab of anti-seize compound to the threads.
