Ultra-Shear Carbide Turning Tool - Full Size Square

The Woodpeckers Ultra-Shear Turning Tool with Square Carbide Insert is built for aggressive stock removal with control that stays predictable from start to finish. It is designed for woodturners who want fast material reduction without the downtime of sharpening traditional tools. The square Ultra‑Shear carbide insert mounts to a hardened alloy steel shaft, delivering consistent cutting action while eliminating edge maintenance.

This tool works on the lathe centerline for roughing cuts, then rolls smoothly into the built‑in 45° shear scraping position once the blank is shaped. That transition allows the cutter to slice fibers cleanly instead of tearing them, reducing surface cleanup even after heavy cuts. The CNC‑machined ChroMoly shaft adds stiffness that keeps the tool stable under load and glides easily across the tool rest.

When the edge dulls, simply rotate the insert to a fresh edge, and when all edges are used, replace the insert and continue working without interruption. When removing the locking screw, first ensure the screw head pocket is completely clean of sawdust and residue, and that the wrench is fully seated in the socket before you attempt to remove it. Firmly turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen. When reinstalling the new screw, apply a light dab of anti-seize compound to the threads.
